John Kwak gained his A.T.C.L Diploma in Violin Performance from the Trinity Guildhall College with Distinction at the age of 13. Having studied under Oleg Kotorovich for many years, he was a prizewinner at the NZ National Concerto Competition. John received a full scholarship to study at the Pettman National Junior Academy of Music and was also a member of the Young Blood Soloists, and performed in various venues across the country. While attending Christ’s College in Christchurch with scholarships as Top Academic on entrance and in music, he was the concertmaster of their orchestra for 5 years.
John studied at the University of Auckland with a $50,000 Entrance Scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Optometry (Hons). He is currently working as an optometrist at Specsavers and performs in the Opus Orchestra from time to time. He has taught students from a young age, and has developed his own method in working with beginners and advanced students alike.
